CCENT

October 9th, 2009 Tim No comments

I finally got one step closer to being CCNA.  Seems I just don’t have Cisco in me, Took CCNA twice with no success, took CCENT and passed, now I have to study for and take the second part to become CCNA.  I really hate the Cisco tests, they are good tests because they really test your knowledge and skills, but half the information is based on parts of a switch/router no one ever really uses.  I mean why would you setup NAT on a router or DHCP, etc.  Isn’t that what a firewall and/or server is for?!  Plus in a small company I never have to perform IGRP, Frame Relay or any of the high end routing protocols.  I wish they would setup the CCNA to be small business oriented and then have the CCNP be more of the WAN and routing protocols.  It also doesn’t help that I can barely add 1 + 1, so subnetting always kicks my butt.

If you plan to take the tests, make darn sure you know subnetting in and out, routing protocols and have plenty of on the job Cisco experience.  That was my major downfall the first two tests.  I took a one week crash course with extremely basic Cisco experience and didn’t have a chance.
